School Tours. Field Trips. Eco-Excursions

Educational tours of the hydroponic farm and Discovery Urban Farm are available for public, private, charter and home school groups. Educators will find this experience to be a rich and exciting resource of educational opportunities for students of all ages.

Topics that will be covered may include, but not limited to, benefits and application of hydroponics, different types of system designs (vertical, flood and drain, deep water techniques, etc.) and grow be designs and their facilitations. Students will also have an opportunity to learn about the importance and applications of several urban farming growing techniques.

The personalized tours take approximately 2 hours. Groups of up to 100 students can be accommodated by utilizing a revolving tour presentation. Breaking larger groups into multiple smaller groups of up to 15-20 students will insure the greatest level of involvement by all participants while maintaining the safety and enjoyment of the students. A ratio of 1 teacher or chaperone per every 10 students must be maintained.

TWS will supply 1 trained guide instructor for each group of up to 20 students maintaining a minimum adult student ratio of 3 adults for each 20 participants.

The cost of the field trip is $10 per student with a minimum of $200 (or whichever is greater). Chaperones an teachers up to the stated ratio above (1 teacher or chaperone per every 10 students) will be admitted at no additional cost. Additional chaperones will be subject to the $15 per person admission fee.

A 50% deposit is required at the time of scheduling to lock in tour. Once a trip is scheduled, the school will be contacted within 96 hours by a representative of the Urban Farming Institute to confirm the details of the tour. The remaining balance must be paid in full no later than 7 days prior to the scheduled field trip.

Please note that the Urban Farming Institute's Discovery Farm and Gardens are an active farm environment. While we are constantly striving to offer a safer environment for your students, the current grounds do NOT offer handicap accessibility for restrooms or walkways. Please advise the staff of UFI of any special needs, mental or physical limitations that need to be addressed prior to arriving at the campus.

A non-refundable deposit of half the price of the field trip will be required to secure the field trip when a date is reserved. Full payment is due 7 days in advance of your visit unless you have made special arrangements. Credit card payments may be made on-line, via phone or submit a check. Field Trips are based on a minimum of 25 students or $250.00 whichever is greater. Rates start at $10 per student. One (1) adult chaperone/teacher admitted free for every 10 paid students. Additional chaperones/teachers are $15.00 each. Prices are subject to change without notice until contract is signed.

Please call for availability and/or reservations. After your trip has been booked, you will receive a confirmation letter and additional instructions by fax or email.

Please review the letter make sure that all the information is correct. Make a copy of the letter for each teacher/class level the will be attending.

It is up to you to arrange and coordinate your transportation for the scheduled field trip.

We will contact you via email or phone within two business days to establish payment and confirm your reservation request.

Your trip is NOT confirmed until deposit is paid and the confirmation letter has been returned by UFI. If you do not receive a confirmation letter within 7 days of receipt of deposit, please contact UFI via phone to verify receipt of request and deposit.
